Things to do on Catalina Island in the rain
Like the rest of Southern California, Catalina Island has been plagued by a seemingly never-ending drought. The lack of water has parched the island’s hillsides, decimated landscapes and driven residents to an array of creative measures to contend with ever more stringent water rationing. As a result, the slightest drizzle is greeted with glee by those of us who live on the island and an actual downpour is cause for spontaneous puddle-jumping and rain-dancing. All that exuberance doesn’t mean we don’t understand that rain can put a bit of a damper on vacation plans – even though there are plenty of things to do on Catalina Island in the rain.
Get a massage – Rain is perfect for relaxing and one of the best ways to relax is having a massage.
Get even wetter – scuba diving and snorkeling are perfect activities for a rainy afternoon.
Take a tour – at Taste of Catalina Food Tours the motto is “We dine, rain or shine.” Grab an umbrella and enjoy Avalon’s finest eats.
See the museum – You can’t beat a few hours at the Ada Blanche Wrigley Schreiner Catalina Island Museum – a beautiful new building containing fascinating collections of art and culture.
Grab a bite – Snag yourself a window seat and enjoy the view while enjoying dinner and an adult beverage or two.
Get out of town – there’s no reason to let a little rain damper your day. Catalina’s vistas are even more dramatic when shrouded by clouds.
