Things to do for kids on Catalina Island
With the unending list of things to do on Catalina Island, it is the perfect destination for families with children both young and old. While we had a hard time narrowing it down to just a few, here are our top five Catalina activities for kids.
Of course the beach is first: From building sandcastles to finding seashells and from splashing in the shallows to snorkeling, Catalina Island’s 50-plus miles of shoreline offer myriad opportunities for adventure and exploration no matter what your age. Younger children will enjoy the soft sand and gently lapping waves at Avalon’s South and Middle beaches, while older kids will enjoy snorkeling at Lovers Cove and Descanso Beach.
Get your play on: Avalon has several play-scapes for kids. Pre-school children will enjoy playing at the Mole Park, on Pebbly Beach Road. Grade school children will be happier playing at City Park, near the corner of Crescent Avenue and Pebbly Beach Road, and People’s Park, on Avalon Canyon Road across from City Hall. Playground equipment is also installed at Avalon Schools on Falls Canyon Road.
Hit a hole in one – or at least try: Avalon’s Golf Gardens have entertained generations of kids and adults. Spend some time outside and enjoy this picturesque miniature golf course.
See the fish: Kids both young and older will enjoy a glass bottom boat tour or a semi-submersible voyage to see the nearly tame fish in Lovers Cove.
Have an adventure: Activities on Catalina Island include a wide array of adventures, many of which will intrigue older kids. From parasailing to kayaking, zip-lining to jet-skiing, if your child is up for adventure – and meets certain age & weight requirements – there’s plenty of fun for several week-long vacations.
