Giving gifts for Catalina Island
Gifts for Catalina Island
Throughout the country, families and individuals alike are choosing to forego the commercialism of the holidays are opting to give back instead of gift more. On Catalina Island, there are many ways to give back as well as give – here are just a few of our favorites.
The Catalina Island Museum – This island institution has been preserving and showcasing Catalina’s human history for decades. With the opening of its new facility, the Ada Blanche Wrigley Schreiner Catalina Island Museum, the museum is able to do much more to spotlight the culture of the Island. Annual memberships make great gifts.
The Catalina Conservancy – Thanks to this conservation organization and the foresight of the Wrigley family, Catalina Island maintains its wild side, home to unique flora and fauna as well as unspoiled wilderness. Join for a friend or family member to give back.
Gift an experience that gives back – Jeep Eco-Tours are a fascinating way to experience Catalina Island and they also help support the Catalina Island Conservancy. Or give tickets to An Evening With Oscar, which benefits the Catalina Island Medical Center Foundation. Have a diver on your Christmas list? Register them for the Avalon Harbor Underwater Clean-up.
Chimes Tower – This iconic chimes above the harbor ring out every 15 minutes, providing a part of the soundtrack that is Avalon. While the chimes themselves are in great shape, the building that houses them needs extensive repairs. Support the efforts of the Catalina Chimes Tower Foundation by purchasing commemorative tile cookies at the Catalina Coffee and Cookie Co.
Give the gift of time – Whether you are planning a volunteer vacation or just spending a day volunteering while you are here, a donation of time is a gift that will be appreciated.
